The Hockey East tournament will reseed after the first round which means that the highest and lowest advancing seeds will play each other.
This isn’t the ECAC where anyone can beat anyone else on any given night. Hockey East is very top heavy as Boston College went 20-0-1 in conference play with very little competition.
There is a tiny, tiny bit of hope for Vermont as Boston University was a pretty distant second to Boston College both statistically and in terms of overall play. Vermont managed to nab one game in the season series and if they can stay out of the box and draw penalties versus BU and play a game that utilizes their strengths, they’ve got half a shot.
Oddly, I feel this series is more solidified than the BU – Vermont series. New Hampshire did not perform well in Hockey East play and has no real matchup advantages against Northeastern.
Much like the 4-5 matchup in the ECAC, I don’t quite know what to make of this one. Maine is the slightly better team by the numbers, but Connecticut won the season series. I think I’m inclined to take Maine’s superior possession numbers and goaltending over Connecticut’s high shooting percentage and better special teams.
